Priestly Vocations
The Office of Priestly Vocations, with the support of the Archbishop, is the chief promoter of vocational awareness for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Detroit. The Office processes all candidates for the priesthood for the Archdiocese and serves as a bridge to build a culture of vocations within the Curia and the parishes.
The Process of Discerning the Priesthood
Contact the Vocations Director
The first step in priestly discernment is contacting the Vocations Director. The Vocations Director is responsible for helping men further discover God’s plan for their life. Fr. Matthew Hood is ready to help you to learn more about discernment, priesthood and the application process.
Learn to discern the will of God
Discernment is the way to recognize the will of God in your life. It is not meant to be a complicated process. Instead, it is important to recognize that God eagerly desires for you to know his will. Through discernment, God invites you to draw closer to him, to grow in your faith and to recognize His plan for your life.
Attend a Vocations Event
The Office of Priestly Vocations organizes various events to support men considering the priesthood. See the current schedule by visiting aod.org/events/calendar/vocations.
Apply to seminary
The final step in the discernment process is applying to the seminary. The Vocations Director is here to help you through this application process. Check out the link to learn more about the seminary. Visit shms.edu to learn more about the seminary.
