Curriculum

Under the leadership of Archbishop Emeritus Allen Vigneron, and in response to the Archdiocese of Detroit’s evangelization initiative to Unleash the Gospel in Southeast Michigan, the Preschool – Grade 8 Religion Curriculum has been revised to incorporate evangelization with catechesis in our Catholic Schools and Parish Faith Formation Programs.

The Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic High Schools, under the leadership of Archbishop Emeritus Allen Vigneron, adhere to the Secondary Catechetical Curriculum, developed in partnership with the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops. Utilizing the USCCB “Doctrinal Elements of a Curriculum Framework” for secondary Catholic schools, the document is designed to be a guide for Archdiocese of Detroit catechists and theology teachers in the catechetical formation of the Catholic high school student. It is meant to be a vehicle of growth for the student, enriching and maturing his or her relationship with Jesus Christ. Click the link below to learn more about each of the ten secondary courses.

The Archdiocese of Detroit Department of Catholic Schools proudly presents the revised K–8 Social Studies Curriculum Standards, firmly rooted in the Catholic worldview. Developed by Social Studies educators across grade levels, and drawing upon national, state, and diocesan resources—including the Cardinal Newman Society’s history standards and the USCCB’s seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching—the social studies curriculum integrates best instructional practices with a clear commitment to Catholic identity. We recognize that science is a core academic subject with an allotted share of instructional time and resources, and that there must be careful and deliberate articulation of the Diocesan Guidelines across grade levels. This curriculum is designed to stimulate curiosity and to develop morally responsible, scientifically literate citizens.
