Position Description

Holy Cross Catholic School in Marine City is hiring a Middle School Social Studies Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.  We are looking to hire a teacher able to demonstrate knowledge and effective teaching practices to create a classroom environment that is rooted in the Catholic Faith. This teacher must be comfortable teaching grades 5th through 8th by creating a genuine rapport with students while igniting an excitment for social studies in a Catholic environment.

Holy Cross Catholic School is a K-8 school in beautiful downtown Marine City. We are proud of our tight-knit community and dedication to our students’ needs. Successful experience with middle school students is preferred. This is a part-time position - three sections of social studies per day, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications/Requirements

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.  All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.  All teachers who are catechist,(teachers of religion), must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.

Candidates for the position should hold a Bachelors in Elementary or Secondary Education, with a social studies endorsement.

Candidates should possess the following skills and classroom practices:

Effective verbal and written communication skills

A willingness for collaboration with the teaching team and the professional learning community at large

Management of a safe and nurturing environment

Establishment of a classroom environment that develops the spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth of children entrusted to their care

Development of relationships with parents to encourage communication about their child's growth and development

Provide positive guidance to students and parents

Develop lesson plans to promote spiritual, academic, physical, social and emotional growth

Required prior to working with students:  fingerprinting, background check, and completion of Protecting God’s Children workshop
