Position Description

The MSP Missionary is assigned to a designated region with the responsibility of facilitating Pastors and Parish Leadership Teams in the development of robust and bold Missionary Strategic Plans (MSPs).  This person will represent the Archdiocese of Detroit in a positive, supportive, and friendly yet firm way such that the MSPs which are developed represent the best that any parish can do in their efforts to implement Unleash the Gospel in the spirit of Sent on Mission.

Position requires a commitment to a two-year employment contract.
  • Engage in dialogue with Pastors and Leadership Teams to facilitate the MSP process to help in the creation of a parish vision that will encourage deeper encounters with Christ and His Church.
  • Document results of discussions in MSP format.
  • Offers recommendations to Pastors and Leadership teams for sound use of all available resources for education, training, certification, and other tools offered through the Curia in support of MSP implementation.
  • Engage, equip and empower Pastors and Leadership Team members with the knowledge and resources they need to successfully lead their own MSP process experience.
  • Provide to MSP Project Manager ideas for improvements to the process and take part of any process improvement discussions as they arise.
  • Available for training in the months of mid-February and March of 2020.  Training is essential for successful implementation of MSPs


  • Graduate degree preferred (or equivalent in education and experience) in business management, strategic planning, organizational development or related field.
  • A minimum three to five years of experience supervising and leading teams or work groups.
  • Ability to commit for to a three-year assignment contract.
  • Strong meeting facilitation, training and presentation skills.
  • High level of relational, verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Ability to analyze multiple sources of information to determine best course of action. 
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people from various cultures.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and strong negotiation abilities. 
  • Must be fluent in using Microsoft Office suites, electronic communication, and collaboration and project management tools.
  • Must be a Catholic in good standing who embraces and transmits the teachings of the church on matters of faith and morals. 
  • Must be willing to take an Oath of Confidentiality and be able to maintain strict confidentiality handling highly sensitive material.
  • Ability to travel to parishes throughout the metro Detroit area, and willing to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be flexible with respect to work times – some meetings may need to occur on weekends and/or evenings to accommodate parish needs.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently as demonstrated by previous work or internship experience.
  • Must be very familiar with Archbishop Vigneron’s Pastoral Letter Unleash the Gospel.
  • Fluency in Spanish is necessary for at least two Missionaries but not required of all.

  • While there is some flexibility in schedule, the following times are mandatory for all Missionaries to be available and able to work:
