Position Description

The person applying for this position will be considered for a team teaching position for students in grades 2 and 3 with a concentration in Math, Science and Religion (Grade 3). The candidate must possess a excellent knowledge of math and be able to teach at varied levels of readiness.  St. Pius is a faith based school and therefore it is expected that all instruction will be aligned with the teachings of the Catholic Church and that applicants will be willing to look for opportunities to bring our Catholic Faith into their curricular areas. Being a catechist certified to teach religion or being a practicing Catholic willing to become certified is required for this position.  
 
Interviews will begin immediately.  

Qualifications/Requirements

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.  All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.  All teachers who are catechist,(teachers of religion), must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.

 
•  Valid Michigan Elementary Certificate  Math Endorsement or experience is necessary
  
•  Protecting God's Children Certificate

•  Proficient knowledge of The Archdiocese of Detroit Math Standards or the Common Core State
   Standards
 
•  Excellent knowledge and skills in teaching math

•  Skilled in technology with integration into the classroom in order to facilitate and enhance student
    learning and parent communication.  (SmartBoard, YouTube, e-mail, blogs, websites, etc.)

•  Ability to create engaging and interesting lessons and deliver effective differentiated instruction with
   authentic assessment

•  Provides a classroom environment that fosters learning and respect

•  Possesses excellent classroom management skills

•  Ability to work collaboratively with administration, teachers, support staff, and parents. Is able to work
   with a team and collaborate across the curriculum

•  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to specific audiences

•  A life-long learner

•  Enjoys working with students in grades 2-3

•  Is kind and caring with a sense of humor

•  Prior teaching experience preferred
