Position Description

Under the supervision of the Pastor/ Principal, the Children’s Choir Director will coordinate, instruct and lead music ministry for our children in 3rd through 8th grade.  The 2018/2019 choir boasts 31 singers who are engaged and eager to sing to the Lord! The Director position is open and looking for a passionate and enthusiastic leader to continue moving the program forward.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  • Provide inspiration and leadership for an enjoyable music experience at our all school Friday morning masses (8am – 9:30am), practice sessions for 90 minutes after school one day per week (Thursdays 3:30 – 5:00), and coordinate the music and preparations for special Masses such as: 12pm Sunday Mass once a month, Christmas Eve Children’s Mass (Dec. 24th @ 4:30pm), First Communion Mass, 8th Grade Graduation Mass and a Spring Choir Concert.
  • Direct the Choir and Provide accompaniment on the piano and or/organ
  • Coordinate use of materials, music equipment and facilities with Pastor/Principal.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in Catholic Mass Settings and Seasonal Hymn Selections
  • 2  References from previous Parish Leaders required
  • Must be able to lead a choir while accompanying on piano or organ
  • Expertise in reading music and singing
  • Use emerging Christian music along with traditional hymns while choosing music for mass, meditation hymns and special masses / events
  • Willingness to foster a Christ-like environment where music helps mold young leaders within our parish and school communities
  • Ability to plan a full years’ music schedule and rehearsal schedule while communicating with Parish and School Authorities as well as Parents to ensure consistency and transparency
  • Good human relations skills at an adult level and level appropriate for working with and building up the confidence of young people
  • Experience with children and children’s programs, minimum 18 months
  • Create an uplifting, fun environment centered in music and singing for the Glory of God while helping young singers grow individually and collectively as a choir.
