Position Description

St. Fabian is seeking an instructor for a three-year-old preschool program which will offer full and half days, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in its well-appointed classroom. The morning offers curriculum which is enriched by activities that follow lunch and rest for those who are enrolled in the full day.  Guided by the state of Michigan early childhood standards of quality published by the Michigan board of education, St. Fabian preschool supports the Catholic education of the whole child focusing on academic, social, and emotional development through inquiry and play both in small and large group setting.

Qualifications/Requirements

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.  All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.  All teachers who are catechist,(teachers of religion), must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.

Every teacher contributes to the spiritual growth of the school community by:
  • Starting each class with a prayer
  • Actively participating in Liturgies and Prayer Services
  • Upholding a moral code consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission of the school
  • Actively participating in one’s own faith community 
  • Engaging in our faculty community through mutual support and encouragement
  • Participating in a Protecting God’s Children Training
  • Must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools

Essential Job Qualifications:

  • Is considered highly qualified in the subject matter assigned
  • Organizes learning activities that are developmentally appropriate and differentiated
  • Uses technology appropriately as a tool within the classroom for learning and instruction. 
  • Establishes effective relationships with students and models respect for and acceptance of all persons in the Catholic school setting. 
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with parent, community, and other staff members. 
  • Maintains professional ethics and responsibilities including participation in the total school program, curriculum development and building committees providing a positive role model for students.
