Position Description

The Youth Minister coordinates the development and implementation of a ministry to youth and directly ministers to the youth of the parish, grades nine through twelve and leads the activities of the adults involved in youth programs.  This position is a direct report to the pastor.  The expectation is that this position will be a 30-hour a week position.  

Essential Duties:  
1.       Plan, develop, and provide spiritual growth and community building activities and opportunities for the youth, grades 9-12, of the parish on a weekly basis throughout the school year.  These regular meetings will allow the youth to bond in friendship and faith throughout the year.  The focus of these activities should be a balance between community, social, moral, faith and service development. This includes arranging speakers, videos, discussion topics, and forums, as well as retreat experiences. The theme of the annual programs should flow from the parish and Faith Formation goals and annual focus.
2.       Organize offsite events for our youth to participate in, including a yearly retreat to Subiaco, the annual CYO Rainbow Conference, and, in the future, an annual Mission Trip. 
3.       Encourage and empower youth to recognize their gifts and help them to recognize opportunities to utilize those gifts in full participation in parish life and ministries.
4.       Serve as an advocate for youth in parish activities and collaborate with other parish ministries to develop opportunities for utilizing their gifts and desire to achieve full participation.
5.       Lead the development of an adult team to minister to the youth and support the development and implementation of the overall youth ministry program.
6.       Promote the youth ministry program through periodic bulletin articles and publications to not only attract the youth but also help adults to recognize their gifts and become part of the ministry team.  
7.       Participate in professional development opportunities including seminars, workshops, and classes to stay current in youth ministry developments and achieve higher levels of archdiocesan youth ministry certification.
8.      Encourage members of the youth ministry team to increase knowledge of youth ministry and achieve certification through workshops, seminars, and classes.
9.      Participate in staff, faith formation staff, and periodic parish pastoral council meetings.
10.   Collaborate with other vicariate and archdiocesan parishes to offer joint activities and opportunities aimed at the program goals.
11.   Handle all aspects of the Confirmation program.

·         Schedule Mass with the Bishop’s office
·         Schedule Liturgical Ministers
·         Prepare and present Candidate/Sponsor night (min. 3-hour program)
·         Prepare and direct rehearsal
·         Prepare and monitor Confirmation Mass
·         Coordinate reception after Mass
·         Coordinate Christian Service Requirements


This person needs to be working towards or possess advanced level religious certification from the Diocese and a degree in youth ministry, religious education, theology or related fields.  Experience in youth ministry is preferred.  This person must be competent in visioning, applying age-appropriate methods, and basic program development as well as exhibit skills in interpersonal communication, collaborative ministry, and public speaking.
The demands of this position include, but are not limited to, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time, and the occasional lifting and/or pushing of less than 20 pounds. This is a full-time position with flexible hours. Salary to be determined.
