Spiritual Services for Scouts - occurs through Boys and Girls Scout Troops, Camp Fire Groups, and approved programs. CYO helps to enhance the spiritual development of young people and their adult leaders by coordinating the National Religious Emblem Program for the Archdiocese of Detroit. Adult Christian leaders of youth also receive training, spiritual activities and recognition. Over 950 youth have completed programs this year.
FAMILY OF GOD UPDATE: Effective January 1, 2014, a trained counselor is no longer required for the Family of God medal. This medal can be earned by any girl in an approved program, with her parent serving as the Adult Advisor. A Family of God Workshop will be offered during counselor training sessions to assist those who would like more information about this program.
I LIVE MY FAITH UPDATE: Effective with the use of the revised I Live My Faith program book, a trained counselor is no longer required for this program. The book is written in such a way that it can be used in either a family setting or a group setting. We will continue to offer an I Live My Faith workshop, during counselor training sessions, for those who plan to lead the group approach or would like more information on the program.
TRAINING: Training for Religious Emblem Counselors will be held on Feb. 14, 2015 and Oct. 3, 2015. Registration materials will be posted on the Training and Ordering tab approximately one month before each session.
RECOGNITION MASS: Plan now to attend the Annual Scout Recognition Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 2 PM. Bishop Cepeda will be the Principal Celebrant.
DECEMBER 31 DEADLINE: Don’t forget that December 31 is the deadline for submitting Adult Award nominations and for submitting youth emblem applications that will be recognized at the Recognition Mass in March.
EAGLE SCOUT / GOLD AWARD RECIPIENT LETTERS OF CONGRATULATION: Archbishop Vigneron is pleased to provide a Letter of Congratulation to youth receiving the Eagle Scout or Girl Scout Gold Award recognition. Including the information requested on the form found on the Training and Ordering tab will help in the preparation of the letter.
POPE PAUL VI UNIT AWARD: The Pope Paul VI Unit Award is the National Catholic Committee on Scouting Quality Unit Award. It recognizes Catholic-chartered Cub Scout and Boy Scout units that have outstanding programs which include Religious Emblems and other activities related to their Catholic Faith. Please see if your Pack or Troop qualifies. The application form is available on the Training and Ordering tab.
