The presence of the Lord nourishes our lives
Fr. Richard C. Masey
55:1-3 Isaiah Reading: First; This chapter is considered by some scholars to be the epilogue for Deutero-Isaiah (Isaiah 40-55). The context is the Babylonian captivity or shortly after the return from exile. Following the context of the previous chapter, the speaker of these verses is either the Lord or a personified Jerusalem. The last line indicates that it is the Lord who speaks to the people of His "everlasting covenant."

The Kingdom of Heaven is journey of faith with Christ
Fr. Richard C. Masey
First Reading: 1 Kings 3:5, 7-12 The new King Solomon asked God for "an understanding heart." This would help him govern the people. It contributes to the national good, just like the list of building projects in the verses that begin this chapter. God goes even further than what Solomon requested. He grants "a heart so wise and understanding." The tradition of the wisdom of Solomon would be remembered for Israel.
