The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is the official missionary arm of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Detroit and one of the four Pontifical Mission Societies.Through prayer, mission education, and financial support, we connect the faithful of Detroit with the Church's missionary work throughout the world.
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith was founded in Lyon, France, in 1822 by Blessed Pauline Jaricot to support the missionary work of the Catholic Church through prayer and financial sacrifice. In 1922, Pope Pius XI designated the Society as Pontifical, placing its mission under the direction of the Holy See.The Society for the Propagation of the Faith was formally incorporated in Detroit in 1928 and continues today to support the missionary work of the universal Church.
Missionary Cooperative Plan (MCP)
The Missionary Cooperation Plan connects missionaries from around the world with parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Each year, approved missionaries are assigned to participating parishes where they share the story of their mission and invite parishioners to support their work through prayer and a special collection.
Missionary dioceses, religious communities, and organizations may apply to participate in the MCP. Applications are reviewed annually, and participation is not guaranteed.
Participating parishes are matched with an approved missionary. The missionary and parish work together to schedule the Mission Appeal. The parish collects all donations and sends one check to:
