A Local Celebration of the International Church

Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole Church in 1926; the first worldwide Mission Sunday took place in October of 1927. World Mission Sunday, organized by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, is a day for Catholics to once again commit themselves to the missions of the Church.

The Archdiocese of Detroit has been reinvigorated in its effort to evangelize and share the Gospel. World Mission Sunday is an event meant to showcase the diversity of our United States home diocese. We invite everyone in the Metro Detroit area to this celebratory Mass, that rotates churches every year. 2021 will take place at Most Holy Redeemer in Detroit.

One Sunday for the Entire Church

Annually, on the third Sunday in October, Catholic churches gather together with the Holy Father to celebrate our common goal, especially in the missions.

“On World Mission Sunday, we join our Holy Father in supporting his missions. As we pray and respond here at home, we share in those celebrations taking place in every parish and school throughout the world. Together, through our prayers and financial support, we bring the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions.” – The Society for the Propagation of the Faith; missio.org
