Archdiocesan Review Board

Following the 2002 adoption of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Archdiocese's Review Board was established as an independent body to review and consider all complaints involving clergy sexual abuse of minors of vulnerable adults. According to the Charter, the Review Board is "a confidential consultative body for the diocesan or eparchial bishop. The majority of the board members are to be lay persons who are not employees of the diocese/eparchy. The review board is intended to advise the diocesan/eparchial bishop in his assessment of allegations of sexual abuse of minors, in his determination of a cleric’s suitability for ministry, and in his review and, when needed, updating of diocesan/eparchial policies for dealing with the sexual abuse of minors. The board can review these matters both retrospectively and prospectively and give advice on all aspects of responses connected with these cases. The process for offering advice and for determining the board’s recommendations should be free from intimidation or the appearance of such"

From 1988 to 2002, an ad-hoc committee advised the Archbishop’s priest-delegate handling abuse allegations.
