Regarding St. Elizabeth Parish, Detroit

On October 7, 2026, Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger, having received a request from the administrator of St. Elizabeth Parish and consulted the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council, issued two decrees concerning St. Elizabeth Parish and St. Elizabeth Church. The first decree causes the parish to merge into Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Detroit. The second decree relegates St. Elizabeth Church to secular but not unbecoming use; that is, the building is decommissioned as a church. The decisions in these decrees take effect November 2, 2026.
