Deacon Johnny Vanneste

Deacon Johnny Vanneste, passed on from this life on September 30, 2026, at the age of 78. Deacon Vanneste was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine, and is survived by his 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

Deacon Vanneste was born May 28, 1948, and was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on October 16, 1993.

Deacon Vanneste served his first assignment at St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Sterling Heights from the time of his ordination until 2000, followed by an assignment at St. Thomas More in Troy until the time of his retirement in 2016. During his retirement, he had occasion to serve at Christ Our Light Parish in Troy. Deacon Vanneste also served for a period of time as a Regional Coordinator for the Permanent Diaconate in the Birmingham/Bloomfield/Troy and Lakes Vicariates.

Deacon Vanneste's visitation will take place on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 3:00–9:00 p.m. at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48312, with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.

Deacon Vanneste’s funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Christ Our Light Parish, 3077 Glouchester Drive, Troy, MI 48084. In state will begin at 10:00 a.m. leading up to Mass.
