Regarding the Michigan Attorney General Report on the Diocese of Saginaw

On June 25, 2026, the Michigan Office of the Attorney General released a report on its investigation into the handling of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw, which consists of eleven counties in Central Michigan and the Thumb region. This report does not address the Archdiocese of Detroit.

One of the priests in the report, Father Arthur Cooney, O.F.M. Cap, served from 2009-2024 at the religious order’s St. Joseph Center Development Office in Detroit. He did not hold an Archdiocesan assignment. However, he is included in the Archdiocese’s online list of restricted/removed clergy because he served within the geographic boundaries of the Archdiocese.
