Reverend Gary Tierney

Reverend Gary Tierney passed from this life on November 30, 2025, at the age of 84.

Father was born on March 13, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 3, 1967.

Father Tierney served as Pastor of Saint Alan Parish, Troy; Guardian Angels Parish, Clawson; Saint Anne Parish, Monroe; Our Lady Queen of Hope Parish, Detroit; and Saint Clement Parish, Dearborn. He also served as Parochial Vicar for Saint Regis Parish, Bloomfield Hills; Administrator of Saint Colman Parish, Farmington Hills; on the Metropolitan Tribunal; as Secretary to Cardinal Dearden; and as the first Director of the Permanent Diaconate. Father Tierney took Senior Status on July 1, 2007.

Father Tierney is predeceased by his parents Lewis Roy and Mary Veronica Tierney, his brothers, Roy and Pete, and his sister Marilyn. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Lynch and Sons Funeral Directors-Clawson, from 4–8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.

The funeral Mass for Father Tierney will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Christ, Our Light Catholic Church, 3077 Gloucester, Troy, Michigan 48084, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
