Monsignor James Moloney

Monsignor James Moloney passed from this life on January 3, 2024, at the age of 93.

Monsignor Moloney was born on June 18, 1930, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1956.

At the time of his death, Monsignor Moloney was serving as a member of the In Solidum team of priests who pastor Divine Child Parish, Dearborn; Sacred Heart Parish, Dearborn; St. Anselm Parish, Dearborn Heights; St. Linus Parish, Dearborn Heights; and St. Sabina Parish, Dearborn Heights, that form the Hope Renewed Family of Parishes. Pursuant to the Priest Covenant, Monsignor had principal care for St. Anselm Parish, which he pastored since 1978. Monsignor previously served for many decades as Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith and as Parochial Vicar of St. Joan of Arc Parish, St. Clair Shores.

Monsignor Moloney is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Edith, and his brothers, Peter, Paul, and Perry (Delores). He is survived by his brother Lawrence (Anne) Moloney, and sister-in-law Elaine Moloney, as well as many nieces and nephews/

Monsignor Moloney will lie in state at St. Anselm Parish (address above), on Tuesday, January 9 from 3 to 9 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Anselm Parish on Wednesday, January 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will take place privately.
