Monsignor Daniel Trapp

Monsignor Daniel J. Trapp passed on from this life on January 26, 2024, at the age of 66.

Monsignor Trapp was born on January 14, 1958, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on December 15, 1984.

Monsignor Trapp served as Moderator and as a member of the In Solidum team of priests who pastor St. Augustine and St. Monica Parish, Detroit; Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Detroit; Sacred Heart Parish, Detroit; St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Detroit; St. Elizabeth Parish, Detroit, that form the Detroit Lower Eastside Family of Parishes. Monsignor also served as Pastor of St. Augustine and St. Monica Parish, Detroit, and Holy Cross (Hungarian) Parish, Detroit; Administrator of St. Augustine and St. Monica Parish, Detroit, All Saints Parish, Detroit; Divine Providence Parish, Southfield, and SS. Andrew and Benedict Parish, Detroit; Parochial Vicar at St. Clement Parish, Warren, and St. Christopher Parish, Detroit; and Weekend Support at St. Anselm Parish, Dearborn, and St. Mary Parish, Wayne. Monsignor also served on Faculty at Sacred Heart Major Seminary for decades, and as Spiritual Director to so many.

Monsignor Trapp is predeceased by his parents, John and Barbara (nee Quirk) Trapp; brother, John and sister, Kathryn. He is survived by sisters, Julie (Patrick) McClure, Sally (Jeffrey) Ludwig, Mary (Dan) Gray, and Carolyn Trapp (Garrett Cobarr); aunt, Madeline Quirk, as well as cousins and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Monsignor Trapp will lie in state on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 3 – 8 PM at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, 2701 W. Chicago Blvd., Detroit, Michigan 48206. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 4 – 7 PM, with a Scripture Service at 7 PM, at St. Augustine and St. Monica Parish, 4151 Seminole Street, Detroit, Michigan 48204, and on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 11:30 AM at Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave., Detroit 48202, until the time of his funeral Mass at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Monsignor Trapp’s funeral Mass will be live streamed at: http://facebook.com/cathedral.aod/live.
