Regarding the funeral for Brian Fraser

The visitation for Brian Fraser, who died Monday during the tragic events at Michigan State University, will take place from 3-8 p.m. Friday, February 17, at Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. (in-state at 9:30 a.m.) Saturday, February 18 at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Farms. The main celebrant will be Father Jim Bilot.

The visitation and funeral Mass are closed to media. Due to the dignity attached to the occasion, and at the respectful request of the family and parish community, we inform you that no recording devices — video, audio or still photography — will be allowed inside the church or any parish buildings during the services. The family also asks that no media interviews take place before, during, or after the services. The church’s main parking lot will be reserved for attendees and will not be open to media vehicles.

A livestream of the funeral Mass will be available for media and members of the public, with a pool feed provided on-site by WDIV-TV (Channel 4). Pool photography will be available via The Detroit News and The Associated Press. Members of the media may contact photoeds@detroitnews.com to inquire about obtaining images.

Other members of the media will be permitted to gather still and video footage outside the church before and after the service. At all times, media are asked to remain at a distance that is discreet and respectful of the family. Media parking will be in the Grosse Pointe Academy parking lot next door to the parish. Media staging will be along Lake Shore Road in front of the church. (See map for details.)

We kindly ask that you heed any additional direction from parish officials regarding parking and access on and around parish property. Thank you for respecting the dignity of the occasion, and for honoring the family’s need for privacy at this difficult time.
