Deacon Edward D. Meyer

Deacon Edward D. Meyer, Ph.D., passed on from this life on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the age of 81. Deacon Meyer is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry.

Deacon Meyer was born March 27, 1941 and was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on June 14, 1980. Deacon Meyer served his first assignment at St. Bernadine of Sienna in Westland from his ordination until 1995. Due to his occupation, he moved to the Diocese of Milwaukee where he served from 1995 to 1997. His occupation had him on the move again to the Diocese of Springfield, where he served from 1997 to 2011. Deacon Meyer relocated back to the Archdiocese of Detroit in 2011 and served his last assignment at St. Patrick in White Lake until his retirement in 2021.

Deacon Meyer had a long career in education in which he held positions as President of St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake, Michigan, President of St. Mary’s Springs High School in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Executive Vice President of American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Deacon Meyer’s visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 13, from 4 – 8 p.m., at Elton Black & Son Funeral Home (Highland location), 3295 East Highland Road, Highland, MI 48356. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.

Deacon Meyer’s funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, September 14, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins Road, White Lake, MI 48386. In state will begin at 10:00 a.m. His Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Thursday, Sept. 15, 10:30am.
