St. Joseph Church in Lake Orion to hold Mass for healing and peace tonight at 7 p.m.

St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion will hold a Mass for healing and peace at 7 p.m. this evening, November 30, in response to the shooting earlier in the day at nearby Oxford High School. Eucharistic adoration will follow.

All are welcome to attend. The parish is located at 715 N. Lapeer Road.

Father John Carlin, associate pastor of St. Joseph, will serve as main celebrant of the Mass and will offer prayers for those killed and injured, their families, for all those affected, and for an end to such devastating violence in our world.

Archbishop Vigneron has also offered his prayers in response to the shooting.

“I am heartbroken to hear of the horrific tragedy at Oxford High School. On behalf of the clergy, religious, and faithful of the Archdiocese of Detroit, I offer heartfelt prayers for the victims, their families, and all those affected in our community.

“May Our Blessed Mother wrap all those wounded — physically, emotionally, or spiritually — in her loving mantle and offer them consolation in the difficult days ahead.”

Reporters, photographers, and videographers are invited to cover the Mass from the vestibule of the parish. To preserve the dignity of the service, we ask that camera operators refrain from using flashes, or any form of artificial lighting, and that special care be taken not to impede procession for Holy Communion. Thank you in advance for heeding any instructions you may receive from parish personnel and for honoring the need some in the community may have for personal space at this difficult time.
