Reverend George Charnley

Reverend George Charnley passed on from this life on December 20, 2021 at the age of 80.

Father Charnley was born on May 12, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan; and ordained a priest on March 6, 1976. He served as pastor of St. James Parish, Novi; St. John Neumann Parish, Canton; and St. Dunstan Parish, Garden City. He also served as parochial vicar of St. Anne Parish, Warren and St. Joan of Arc Parish, St. Clair Shores. Father Charnley also served in the Metropolitan Tribunal and the Permanent Diaconate Program.

Visitation for Father Charnley will be held at St. Kenneth Parish, 14951 N. Haggerty Road, Plymouth, MI 48170 on Tuesday, December 28, from 3 – 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., and on Wednesday, December 29 from 10 a.m. until his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. There will be a private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Father Charnley was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret; brother, Joseph; and sister, Sr. Joan IHM. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret (late Bob) Lipsit, Mary Jo Gowen, Katie (Greg) Malnar, Barbara (David) Kozlowski, Sheila Hoetger, Mary Ellen (David) Kator; and brothers, Thomas (Dolores), as well as his sister-in-law, Kathy and brother-in-law, Doug Gowen, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews.
