Celebrate the Joy of the Gospel through the CSA

Jesus said to His disciples, These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
— John 15:11-12

Pope Francis encourages us to share Christ’s Good News and His message of love and mercy with the world. We have a special opportunity in the Archdiocese of Detroit, through our support of the annual Catholic Services Appeal, to answer Christ’s call, as well as renew our personal commitment to participate as good and faithful stewards in His mission for the Church.

This year’s CSA theme, Celebrate the Joy of the Gospel, is adapted from Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, and is deepened with ancillary themes. Our Holy Father has declared this to be a Jubilee Year of Mercy — the Scriptures are filled with examples of people faithful to the Word of God showing love and its attendant mercy to those in need of comfort and sustenance. And here in the Archdiocese, we have launched the Unleash the Gospel push toward Synod 16 with its promise of renewing our energy for evangelization.

Our gifts to the CSA put these themes into action. St. Teresa of Avila reminds us, Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours … Together, we, as the Body of Christ, every day, in some way through our support of CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, impact the lives of thousands in southeast Michigan and beyond. We bring Christ’s mercy and love into their lives, and by our showing that love, send a powerful evangelization message for all to witness.

All of us, personally and through our parishes, enjoy the fruits of the work of the archdiocesan Central Services departments and offices seeking to carry out the mission of the Archdiocese of sharing Christ in and through the Church. When we use God’s blessings to pledge our annual gift to the CSA, we join with our sisters and brothers in Christ throughout the Archdiocese to do the Lord’s work — work that no one individual or parish could possibly do alone.

Please take a moment to read how gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal have made a difference in the lives of some of our neighbors.
