Christopher Werner,
Catholic Youth Organization in 2001 began a program specifically for middle school age youth entitled W.I.N.D. (Walking in New Directions).  This is a one day Catholic Conference for 6th through 8th graders from parishes and schools throughout the six counties of our diocese.

This conference gives a safe place for these youth to gather and learn more about their faith National Catholic Keynote speakers and in workshops where they openly discuss relevant topics such as bullying, cyberbullying, and peer pressure to name a few.  Also during the conference the youth give back to the local community through service opportunities.  They have various fun activities including an opportunity to show off their PG appropriate dance moves; all of this with the added bonus of coming together to celebrate the Word of the Lord and then go forth to share their experience with others.

The amazing part about this conference is everything is planned by middle school youth and implemented by them under the supervision of their group leaders and the CYO Youth Leadership Development Department.  We have been blessed to collaborate through the years with the following parishes and schools: Divine Child, Dearborn; Guardian Angels, Clawson; Our Lady of Hope/St. Germaine -; Sacred Heart, Dearborn; St. James, Ferndale; St. John’s Center for Youth and Family, Plymouth Twp.; St. Kieran, Shelby Twp.; St. Lawrence, Utica; St. Mary, Port Huron; St. Robert Bellarmine, Redford; St. Sabina, Dearborn Heights; and St. Thomas a’Becket, Canton.
