Position Description

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
 
The Associate Director of Evangelization serves as a key leader and collaborator with the EMD Director for the institution of Unleash the Gospel in many areas of the Archdiocese of Detroit. The work of this position includes overseeing the work of the Family Evangelization Team, the Marriage Support Team, The Young Adult and Campus Ministry Team, the Office of Christian Worship, and the Christian Service Coordinator. The Associate Director is responsible for integrating and coordinating programs which support the mission to Unleash the Gospel, primarily as it relates to families and parishes.  The Associate Director will lead a variety of offices and teams, responsible for promoting the work of evangelization. This person will also have responsibility to integrate the work of the Office of Christian Worship into the overall efforts of Unleash the Gospel.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS REQUIRED BY THIS JOB
  1. Work in communion with the Family Evangelization Manager to propose new ideas to improve collaboration and evangelization efforts for families within the archdiocesan and its parishes.
  2. Assist the Family Evangelization Office in implementing the following Synod Proposition: “Envision and develop a practical plan for ongoing human and spiritual formation for all the stages of life.”
  3. Work with the Family Evangelization Office to incorporate the practical plan for families in parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
    1. Offer formation opportunities in line with this practical plan.
  4. Ensure the collaboration between all offices and teams within the purview of the Associate Director of Evangelization. This includes:
    1. Promotion of cross-training staff
    2. Coordinate regular team meetings.
    3. Develop & maintain an annual calendar of office-sponsored events
    4. Develop and update resources, in collaboration with the Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship, for parishes, families, and individuals.
  5. Provide information and support for Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship, bishops, vicars, pastors, pastoral staff, and parishioners as requested.
  6. Represent the Department of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship and on various Archdiocesan Councils and Committees as requested.
  7. Collaborate with other Central Services departments and offices on programs and services as needed, in particular:
    1. The Department of Catholic Schools
    2. The Office of Youth Ministry
    3. The Office of Catechetics
    4. The Office of Cultural Ministry
  8. Encourage parishes to move from maintenance to mission, through the implementation of Missionary Strategic Plans.
  9. Support and guide the work of parish and vicariate evangelization committees.
  10. Represent the Archdiocese at state, regional and national levels as assigned.
  11. Assist parishes to identify the best suited evangelization strategies and programs.
  12. Relate to Lay Movements within the Archdiocese, assisting them to be active in the work of the New Evangelization.
  13. Assist the Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship in additional areas as required.
  14. Work on special projects as needed.
  15. Perform other related duties as needed.
 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master’s degree in theology or related field. Five years of experience in evangelization, parish, archdiocesan, or related field and working knowledge of parish dynamics. 
  • Must be a practicing Catholic, who embraces and transmits the teachings of the church on matters of faith and morals, especially those teachings of the Catholic Church related to marriage and family. 
  • Familiarity with the documents of the Church regarding the vision and mission of the family including Familiaris Consortio, Christifidelis Laici, and Amoris Laetitia
  • Familiarity with the documents of the Church regarding evangelization, such as:  Evngelii Nuntiandi, Evangelii Gaudium, Redemptoris Missio, and Unleash the Gospel
  • Familiarity with Christian worship, specifically the Sacrifice of the Mass and the sacramental economy. 
  • Proficient with technology, especially Microsoft Office and Smartsheet. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Strong relational, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to mentor others.

  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule for special events, including some evenings and weekends.
