Position Description

Act as associate to the Director of the Office for Christian Worship, with an emphasis on oversight for the Rite of Christian and Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
  • Provide expertise, consultation, workshops and resources on liturgical matters and new Vatican documents (such as the new Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) for Auxiliary Bishops, parishes, vicariates, and other diocesan offices
  • Equip parishes with the necessary resources and formation to plan transformative Sunday liturgies and liturgical events, that will commission and send forth individuals and families for mission.
    • Support parishes to focus sustained attention on the quality of the weekday and weekend liturgical experience, especially from the perspective of newcomers and newly returning Catholics
    • Provide training and resources for parishes to provide a friendly, hospitable environment where mutual love is evident.
    • Produce Homily aids and preaching workshops for clergy to break open the word of God and help them apply it to people in the pews
  • Work with the Prayer and Intercession Committee to develop and provide initial and continuing formation for Parish Intercession Teams
  • Ensure each group of parishes have fully formed and trained Intercessory Prayer Teams prior to the start of their Missionary Strategic Planning process
  • Coordinate the annual multiple celebrations of the Rite of Election at the Cathedral. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate files on all Rite of Election matters
  • Prepare participant aids and the Orders of Service for bishops, deacons, masters of ceremony at the Rite of Election and other diocesan events sponsored by other departments
  • Plan and execute archdiocesan transformative liturgical celebrations which include the Archbishop and Auxiliary Bishops
  • Work with the Certification Committee to develop and provide Topics for RCIA Certification.
  • Upon request, research liturgical matters, maintain statistics and current bibliography on available resources, track new documents and pastoral letters
  • Provide resources, support, and plan liturgies and prayer services for parish transitions, including previous or pending parish closures and/or mergers, and for parishes experiencing a death or removal of a pastor or other tragic event, including rituals that facilitate and support reconciliation, healing, loss and grief.
  • Assist the director of the Office for Christian Worship and performs director’s functions in his absence
  • Sit on and develop materials for various ad hoc committees as requested
  • Produce a monthly “Worship News” newsletter to provide parishes with current liturgical developments
  • Help develop prayer services for Central Services events as requested
  • All other duties as assigned by Director of Worship


  • Bachelor’s degree in Liturgical Studies or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three years experience in parish or diocesan pastoral work necessary.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a Catholic in good standing who embraces and transmits the teachings of the church on matters of faith and morals
  • Must be comfortable using computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Smartsheet
  • Excellent organizational skills and project management experience
