Position Description

St. Peter Claver Catholic Community is a buoyant community of faith located in northwest Detroit. Our ministry involves 1. Reaching out to our neighbors in the community by building strong and loving relationships through workshops/lectures that engage our families’ needs and responding to the call of injustices with preparation to become a center of action, 2. Welcoming in ALL those seeking to build a deeper relationship with the Lord, and 3. Praising God and offering a multi-denominational family and youth activities that bring communities together. This part-time position will be responsible for engaging everyone in our parish communities, regardless of faith affiliation, such that the candidate must be comfortable operating in a multi-cultural setting, with a focus on African-American culture. The candidate will work cooperatively with the pastor and other members of the pastoral team to ensure the mission is working. The candidate must be willing and able to form partnerships with and participate in events at other parishes in the vicariate, local schools, and other organizations in relation to outreach in the community, and must be able to create opportunities for social and/or educational events and be responsible for recruiting and guiding volunteers in planning and executing all details of these events.

Able to maintain flexible work schedule
Comfortable networking and attending events in unfamiliar settings
A self-starter
Able to identify priorities and develop organized plans for action
Skilled and comfortable in making connections between youth (under the age 18) and young adults (ages 18-45)
Excited about working with youth and young adults in planning and executing community programs and events
Comfortable working in a team setting 
An advocate for the community
The requirements for this position include:
Relevant undergraduate degree
Demonstrated success at starting programs or initiatives from scratch, with measurable results of sustainability and success
Active social media participant
Proficient in Microsoft applications, event registration and survey software (ex. Eventbrite, Survey Monkey)
Experienced in maintaining webpages
Demonstrated success at planning social events for youth and young adults
