Position Description

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs is seeking a 5th grade teacher to begin in the 2019-2020 school year.  OLQM is a close-knit, faith-filled community dedicated to nurturing students who will contribute to the world through faith, character, and lifelong learning. The 5th grade teacher will facilitate the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social growth of students by providing them with the structure and guidance necessary to meet their needs.


Qualifications/Requirements

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.  All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.  All teachers who are catechist,(teachers of religion), must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.

Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in elementary education and a focus on math education (EX endorsement) is preferred. 

Candidates should be prepared to: 

  • Maintain academic excellence through the use of fine teaching methods, designated curriculum, and technology integration and materials 

  • Provide rigorous instruction in literacy and mathematics in alignment with Catholic teachings 

  • Utilize the AOD math, literacy, and religion standards

  • Complete and provide lesson plans weekly and curriculum maps monthly 

  • A willingness to take on extra duties such as 5th grade camp

  • Prepare and submit required student records and reports on a timely basis

  • Maintain effective communications with parents and students

  • Expand students intellectual development, as well as to promote their emotional development through appropriate social interaction

  • Lead the students to a total commitment of themselves to the Person of Jesus Christ, which involves attending mass weekly and occasionally on weekends  

  • Facilitate a Catholic atmosphere in which each student feels secure in the knowledge of God’s love for him/her

  • Differentiate learning experiences which meet the needs of the individual student

  • Provide class opportunities to work together and promote social growth and acquired needed social skills 

  • Establish an atmosphere of caring that is physically neat, organized, and maintains order and decorum through students own self-discipline

  • Provide active monitoring of students at all times (both in the classroom and throughout the school)

  • Attend all faculty meetings and school events at which faculty attendance is required
