Catholic high school teachers/catechists are required to have at least a BA with a major in theology or religious studies or its equivalent or at least a BA in another field with a minimum 30 credit hours of theological competencies. The Archdiocese of Detroit’s policy for religion teachers in a Catholic high school requires that the teacher be certified through the Office of Ministerial Certification or be in the process of obtaining certification. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Roman Catholic theology or a directly related area; will have at least three years of teaching experience; will be somewhat familiar with and committed to the mission of Jesuit education; and be a faithfully practicing Catholic. A Bachelor’s degree in theology or a directly related area is the basic requirement.
