Position Description

University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is actively seeking a full-time theology teacher for the 2019-20 school year.
 
DETAILS:  Full-time high school theology teaching position responsible for teaching five classes. Position responsibilities also include one section of student prefecting in accordance with department/school policies in effect at the time of hire. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Roman Catholic theology or a directly related area; will have at least three years of teaching experience; will be somewhat familiar with and committed to the mission of Jesuit education; and be a faithfully practicing Catholic.  A Bachelor’s degree in theology or a directly related area is the basic requirement. This position reports to the Department Chairperson. 
 
The successful candidate will become a member of a team of faculty, staff, and parents at University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy who help each student become self-actualized and confident in his own goodness and inner processes, develop a healthy integration between self and self-concept, and grow intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and socially.  A faculty member at U of D Jesuit will help to form students into persons who seek justice for all people, particularly among the poor, the suffering, and the neglected. SALARY:  Commensurate with degree(s) and experience.

Qualifications/Requirements

Catholic high school teachers/catechists are required to have at least a BA with a major in theology or religious studies or its equivalent or at least a BA in another field with a minimum 30 credit hours of theological competencies. The Archdiocese of Detroit’s policy for religion teachers in a Catholic high school requires that the teacher be certified through the Office of Ministerial Certification or be in the process of obtaining certification.
