Position Description

Assistant Principal
 
This position is responsible for assisting the principal and leadership team in implementing the school's mission to form young women in the feminine genius through the planning, administration, and management of St. Catherine of Siena Academy. The Assistant Principal assists with developing curriculum, supervising staff, facilitating school events, disciplining students and working with families to bring the good news of the gospel into every aspect of the St. Catherine’s family.

St. Catherine of Siena Academy is an all girls’ Catholic High School in Wixom, Michigan, with a growing enrollment of 265 students. The Academy started in September of 2010 with a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which integrates faith and reason Staff must have an understanding of the unique dignity and vocation of women as taught by St. John Paul II and have a desire to be a part of a team using his/her gifts to grow the school community in the mission.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
 
I. Community and Instructional Leadership
A. Member of school leadership team to implement the mission of the school
B. Spiritual role model in management style, activities, and personality
C. Ability to form and maintain relationships with students, staff, and families
D. Provide assistance in planning, implementing and evaluating the instructional program
E. Further the development of curriculum and can guide teachers in curriculum mapping
F. Aids teachers in differentiated instruction and supports learning needs of all students,
including those needing accommodations plans
G. Foster professional development opportunities for staff to facilitate educational and spiritual goals
H. Assists staff with classroom management issues
 
II. Student Interaction
A. Helps establish a vibrant student culture rooted in the Catholic faith
B. Garners mutual trust and respect with the student body
C. Enforces the Student Handbook and Honor Code by monitoring student behavior and implementing discipline policy to enhance virtues
D. Monitors student achievement and addresses academic concerns with individual students
E. Monitors student attendance and addresses concerns with individual students
F. Promotes student activities, i.e. after school clubs, student government events, community service projects
G. Fosters opportunities for student body to grow spiritually and academically
 
III. Administrative Functions
A. Provides supervision in the hallways, lunch room, Mass and at school events
B. Assists in staff evaluations, hiring process and development of community-wide policies
C. Attend meetings with the Archdiocese of Detroit and other constituents as pertains to the educational maintenance of the school
D. Assists in school improvement planning and accreditation
E. Writes mandated State and Archdiocesan reports and can assist in annual school report
F. Assist in the development of building policies and procedures
G. Assist in the development and implementation of school's disciplinary policy
H. Crisis management development and implementation of crisis plan
I. Act as liaison with parent club organization in meeting the needs and mission of the school
J. Attend Board meetings as necessary
 
Essential Skills:
• Willingness to grow spiritually and uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Knowledge of the Theology of the Body and the New Evangelization
• Ability to work as part of a team and discern leadership decisions through prayer
• Demonstrate ability in communication and relationship building with students, staff and parents
• Knowledge of best practices in curriculum development and classroom assessment
• Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures
 

Qualifications/Requirements

Qualifications
 
1. Be a practicing Catholic with a letter of recommendation from parish pastor
2. A Master’s Degree or higher in education administration/leadership
3. A valid Professional Teacher Certificate
4. A minimum three years experience as teacher and/or administrator
5. Protecting God’s Children Certificate
