Catholic high school teachers/catechists are required to have at least a BA with a major in theology or religious studies or its equivalent or at least a BA in another field with a minimum 30 credit hours of theological competencies. The Archdiocese of Detroit’s policy for religion teachers in a Catholic high school requires that the teacher be certified through the Office of Ministerial Certification or be in the process of obtaining certification. All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
St. Catherine’s prefers State of Michigan certification in the following subject area for this position.
Theology MA Theology
Valid State of Michigan teacher certification, 9-12, with appropriate endorsement(s)
Must meet all requirements established by the Archdiocese of Detroit for employment
Must have completed or be willing to complete Protecting God’s Children training
