Position Description

Our Lady of Victory, a Catholic, co-educational accredited parish school located in Northville, Michigan (www.olvnorthville.org) is seeking a full-time Assistant Principal. The school was founded in 1952 and currently serves over 460 students in grades Preschool through Eight. Our Lady of Victory School is committed to providing a nurturing environment which fosters the students’ spiritual, academic and social growth. We believe firmly that all students have the capacity to learn and grow and we commit to working tirelessly with our faculty, staff, parents and students to help them reach their potential. The assistant principal reports to the principal.

As an integral part of the administrative staff, the assistant principal contributes to fulfilling the mission of the school by working with the principal in the management of the school, faculty, staff and students. She/he collaborates closely with the principal in supporting and upholding the philosophy of Catholic education, including maintaining a high level of academic excellence rooted in the truths of our faith.

Principle Responsibilities

Curriculum
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, improvement and evaluation of the curriculum ensuring conformance to AOD standards, State of Michigan standards and OLV’s mission
  • Works collaboratively with all staff to strengthen instructional programs
  • Encourages and supports development of innovative programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate
  • Demonstrates an understanding of a variety of educational and pedagogical skills
  • Promotes the use of technology in teaching/learning process

Supervision of Faculty and Staff
  • Collaborates with the principal to cultivate a professional learning community
  • Assists the principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff
  • Assists administrative team in the supervision and evaluation of all faculty
  • Observes employee performance, records observations and conducts evaluation conferences
  • Responsible for effective procedures for regularly scheduled evaluation of classroom instruction and student learning
  • Provides appropriate staff orientation and ongoing professional development
  • Oversees faculty and staff committees as assigned

Supervision of School Activities
  • Provides coordination, scheduling and supervision of all OLV extra-curricular activities including academic clubs/competitions, fine and performing arts and retreats
  • Coordinates assigned student activities and services; i.e. Summer Enrichment Classes, 6th Grade Camp, 8th Grade Washington DC Trip, Summer Math and Reading requirements

Communications
  • Establishes effective communication and maintains positive relationships with faculty, staff,  students, parents and the community

Safety and Security
  • Ensures that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods
  • In partnership with the principal, responsible for the safety and security of all students, staff and visitors
  • Assists with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities
  • Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program

Marketing
  • Collaborates with the parish designee on marketing and development goals and efforts
  • Assists administrative team in student recruitment and retention efforts

General
  • Assists the principal in ensuring that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable
  • Works with the Learning Center Team to identify and accommodate for the special needs of students
  • Works with the principal in compiling annual budget requests based on documented program needs
  • Requisitions textbooks, supplies and equipment; distributes materials and maintains inventory
  • Maintains the student information system and records to track progress on student performance objectives and academic excellence indicators
  • Supervises operations in principal’s absence
  • Commits to ongoing personal, professional and spiritual development through reading, retreats, classes, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Attends required school, parish and Archdiocese of Detroit meetings
  • Special duty assignments as directed by the principal

Qualifications/Requirements

• Committed to the principles of Catholic, faith-based education
• Master’s Degree, Ed. Leadership preferred -or working toward
• Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate
• 5 or more years of teaching experience
• Educational leadership experience
• Demonstrated ability to inspire, lead and work collaboratively with faculty and staff
• Strong leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Team building and collaborative working relationships Position begins July 1, 2019
