Position Title: Pastoral Associate
Status: Full-Time, Exempt, Benefits

Supervisor's Title: Pastor

Gesu Parish and School is a multiracial, long-standing, and highly respected ministry in the city of Detroit. For almost 100 years the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Priests and Brothers of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) have walked humbly with this community of worship and service. Gesu is located in northwest Detroit across the street from the Jesuit university, Detroit Mercy. We are a dynamic parish who is deeply committed to Christ, the Spirit of Vatican II, and deepening our influence in and contribution to the renewal of Detroit through our faith.

We are seeking a talented, dynamic, and innovative person to assist in leading us in the vision and mission of Christ and the pastoral care of Gesu. The scope of the ministry of the pastoral associate will primarily entail spiritual formation, liturgy, RCIA, pastoral care, social outreach and administration. Applicants should have interest in and experience with parish ministry, be conversant with modern social media technology and like working in a collaborative ministry setting.



1. Master's degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies or its equivalent strongly preferred.
2. Parish based ministry experience of at least three (3) years required.
3. Working and theoretical knowledge of Catholic sacramental theology including current Church and Canon law and teaching and issues related to: RCIA, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Marriage, Anointing and Funeral Rites.
4. Demonstrate a working knowledge of theology that can be translated into practical pastoral and liturgical situations.

2. Strong listening, verbal and written communications skills.
3. Strong organizational skills and ability to work with a team.
4. Conflict resolution and mediation experience preferred.
5. Skill and experience in ministry leadership, counseling, and public speaking required.

1. Availability for frequent evening and weekend work.
2. Ability to apply and publicly share application of the Scriptures and Catechism of the Catholic Church.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
4. Active participant in the work and sacramental life of the Catholic Church.
