Virtue Project

Virtue Project

The Virtues lesson plans were created to strengthen the Catholic Identity of our Catholic Day Schools and our afterschool Religious Education Programs.

As the school year for 2017-2018 ends, we want to thank the principals and teachers who have used the lessons for Cycle 3 of the Virtues Project. Our focus on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit has been very timely in light of the Archbishop’s reliance on the Holy Spirit to move the work of the New Evangelization in the Archdiocese of Detroit. If there are any teachers who have created a lesson for one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit that you would like to share with your fellow catechists, you can use the lesson plan template under Lessons. The template is a word document and when complete you can send it via e-mail to Carnacchi.greg@aod.org. The posted lessons will remain on line for a period of time, but during the summer the lessons will be removed as we begin posting the lessons for Cycle 1, the Cardinal and Theological Virtues. May the teaching and focus on the Virtues help our students to become Disciples of Christ! If you have any questions about the Virtues Project feel free to contact me at (313) 596-7332 or Carnacchi.greg@aod.org. May God bless each of you as you take a rest from the work of your ministries!

Fr. Robert Barron (9 Fruits of the Holy Spirit – Older Students)

Fr. John Morris (the Christophers’ overview for all but not the detail in definition of the Fruits)

There are times when different numbers of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit are listed at either nine or twelve.  The reason for the difference is in the different translations of the Bible that are used.  If we look at the New Testament and the letter to the Galatians 5:22 in the New American Bible translation we find nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit, however in the Latin translation, the Douay Rheims in Galatians 5:22 we find twelve Fruits of the Holy Spirit.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church also lists twelve Fruits of the Holy Spirit, so the Virtues Project also uses twelve.  Because there are more Fruits than months in the school year, some months require two Fruits of the Holy Spirit to be covered    If you have a lesson for one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit that you would like to share with your fellow catechists, you can use the lesson plan template under Lessons.  The template is a word document and when complete you can send it via e-mail to Carnacchi.greg@aod.org.  Also, if you have a good idea to modify an existing lesson you may use the Lesson Plan Modification Form below.  May the teaching and focus on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit help us to bring our students to become Disciples of Christ!  If you have any questions about the Virtues Program contact us at (313) 596-7332 or Carnacchi.greg@aod.org.

May God bless each of you as you work in your ministries!
