Remembering the 25-Year Anniversary of Blessed John Paul II’s Visit to Detroit

In 1987, the people of Detroit were graced with a visit from the Holy Father. We look back with gratitude on Blessed Pope John Paul II’s tour of the Detroit area on the silver anniversary of his visit. The occasion will forever be a milestone in the rich history of our archdiocese.

WHAT:

A Jubilee Mass to mark the silver anniversary of Blessed John Paul II’s 1987 pastoral visit to Detroit. Cardinal Edmund C. Szoka will be principal celebrant and homilist.

This special anniversary also has been marked in The Michigan Catholic newspaper and with special programming on the Catholic Television Network of Detroit.

WHEN:

Sept. 18-19 marks the two-day, 25-year anniversary of the Papal Visit.

Mass is held on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

A half-hour program on Catholic Television Network of Detroit will take place:
11 a.m. Tuesday, September 18
4 p.m. Tuesday, September 18
10 a.m. Wednesday, September 19
2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 19

WHERE:

The Mass will be at St. Therese of Lisieux Church, 48115 Schoenherr Road, Shelby Township.
