Father John Blaska

Father John Blaska passed on from this life on February 26, 2018 at the age of 91.
Father Blaska was born January 6, 1927 in Dearborn, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 6, 1953. 
Father Blaska served as Administrator of St. Alan Parish (merged to become Christ Our Light Parish), Troy; and served as Pastor of St. Ives Parish (merged to become Church of the Transfiguration Parish), Southfield; St. Genevieve Parish, Livonia; St. Theodore of Canterbury Parish, Westland; and St. Joseph Parish, Monroe.  He also served as Parochial Vicar of Guardian Angels Parish, Clawson; Our Lady of Loretto Parish, Redford; Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Detroit; and St. Mary of Redford Parish, Detroit.
Visitation will take place at Christ Our Light Parish, 3077 Glouchester, Troy, Michigan 48084 on Friday, March 2 from 3 – 8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m.    
Father Blaska will lie in repose at Christ Our Light Parish, 3077 Glouchester, Troy, Michigan 48084 on Saturday, March 3 from 10:00 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 17100 Van Dyke, Detroit, Michigan 48234 on Monday, March 5 at 11 a.m.
 Father Blaska was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth (nee Kengel) Blaska; and his brother, Robert Blaska.  He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Condolences may be sent to Father Blaska’s cousin, Thomas Blaska, 14840 Sherwood Park Drive, Shelby Township, Michigan 48315.
