Position Description

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

The second shift custodian is responsible for helping keep the assigned building clean, safe, functional and secure in accordance with the standards.  The custodial worker must maintain the school building in a state of operational excellence such that they present no interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the education program.

  1. Directly responsible to the building principal and work collaboratively with the Building Engineer.
  2. Perform the assigned work schedule following approved custodial job procedures.
  3. Maintain neat and clean appearance when on duty.
  4. Project a positive image for the school with all employees, whenever the public, guests, or visitors are in the building. 
  5. Maintain proper and neat storage areas for custodial supplies and equipment in the area of the building assigned.
  6. Maintain building security by closing the building each school day.
  7. Maintain good sanitary conditions of building facilities.
  8. Cooperate with all groups, in a pleasant and courteous manner, that use the building after regular school hours.
  9. Report problems noted in the building to Building Engineer or principal.
  10. Must be familiar with the proper operation and care of custodial mechanical equipment.
  11. Must have knowledge of institution cleaning procedures.
  12. Other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions
Maintaining all classrooms, including but not limited to: vacuuming, refuse removal, dusting, windows and wiping down desks.
Maintaining of restrooms, including but not limited to: general cleaning of all surfaces, stocking of paper and liquid products, refuse removal.
Cleaning of main office and front office vestibule, including but not limited to: cleaning of windows, soft surfaces, refuse removal, disinfecting front desk.
Sanitizing all school drinking fountains.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and give and receive oral and written instructions. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.   The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, including cleaning supplies, pails, and bags/boxes.
