Ecumenical & Interfaith

The Archdiocese of Detroit works to maintain cordial relations with fellow Christians and those of other non-Christian faith communities in southeast Michigan.

In order to accomplish this goal, our staff serves on several interfaith boards and committees including:

Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron, Office Advisor Fr. Jeffrey Day and Office Coordinator Michael Hovey periodically meet with the Michigan Board of Rabbis, the Imams’ Council, and the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity, seeking ways to collaborate in areas of mutual concern.

The archdiocese is also an active participant in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Midwest Catholic-Muslim Dialogue, which meets annually. Auxiliary Bishop Francis Reiss serves as the Catholic co-chair of the group.

Fr. Day and Mr. Hovey are members of the Catholic Association of Diocesan Ecumenical and Interfaith Officers (CADEIO).

Those preparing for a marriage between two separate religions can also find support through the Office of Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations.
